Come along to the first of our CEA meetings to decide our claims for collective agreement negotiations this year.
This is your chance to have your say.
Meet your union official advocates.
Make sure everyone comes.
If you are rostered on you will be paid to attend. Make sure your supervisor has rostered you off for a meeting during your shift.
You may have noticed SEA-Unite co-president Liane Henry and exec member Candy Sherman have been visiting departments recently. This has been part of our building programme so we are as strong as possible going into negotiations. Both have been doing a great job - 90 staff on IEAÕs have joined the union and dozens of problems have been uncovered and many solved. If you have missed the opportunity of meeting up with the dynamic duo you can sign up as a member on forms on the drop box outside wardrobe.
SEA-Unite member and SkyCity employee for 12 years, Ana Baice, was reinstated following union intervention after she was wrongfully terminated. Ana was one of the casuals that have been targeted by the company. Some of the casuals have been told they must commit to a certain number of shifts per week and SEA-Unite believe this is an illegal requirement for casuals. No consultations were held with the union before this cleanup began. If you know any union members who have been purged and want to remain employee they should contact the union.
We have had reports that people have been rung up at home and had their shifts for the day cancelled.
This cannot be done unless you agree. If you want to work you can come in and work - no one can stop you.
The finger scanning machine will soon be installed outside the Grand Housekeepers muster room. Before SEA-Unite intervened they have had to come over to main site to scan in and out. Some staff had also been pressured to do up to 20 rooms with a trainee. SEA-Unite has ensured that the guide of 13 rooms is enforced.
Unite National Director Mike Treen visited the 60,000 strong Casino workers union in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.
He was shown through their training centre, given a tour of Treasure Island by a union organiser responsible, attended a casino organisers meeting and even participated in a disciplinary.
Mike has brought back copies of their Collective Agreements to help us with our negotiations.
Congratulations to the Security management for taking the time to explain the lieu day process to managers and staff. It seems there is a better understanding across the company but we are still running into a few problems in other departments. Remember a lieu day cannot be denied if you give two weeks notice (they can consult you about it but they canÕt refuse). And it is good to see that Security staff are getting the extra pay they are entitled to after 12 months service and passing their NZQA certificate.
Unite National Secretary Matt McCarten has wrapped up negotiations for the Restaurant Brands Collective Agreement for KFC, Starbucks, Pizza Hut workers.
Wages increase a minimum of 6.67% with a 9% increase for most KFC union members (non-members at KFC only get the 6.67%). Union fees are refunded to all members every 4 weeks by the company.
